For over 53 years the Eagleson Funeral Home, and the Eagleson family have served their community of Southampton and area, now known as Saugeen Shores, in providing support and guidance to those in their greatest time of need. Eagleson Furniture and Funeral Services opened in May of 1953, when Gordon and Margaret Eagleson purchased the Herbert Harmer Furniture and Undertaking, which the Harmer family had established in 1886.
Like so many other residents of Southampton, Margaret and Gordon and their young family of Frank, Peter and Paul and still yet to come John and Ann, chose this community to be their home. After providing visitation and funeral services out of their small apartment, adjacent to their furniture store on High Street, Spruce Lawn Guest Home on Palmerston Street, was purchased in 1955, and became the first Funeral Home for Southampton. Many additions and many makeovers later, the Eagleson Funeral Home, Chapel and Family Centre of Southampton (Saugeen Shores) is complimented on being one of the most beautiful, warm, homey and well thoughtout facilities in the Grey Bruce Region. After many years of service in the funeral industry, involvement in his community, and dedication to his family, Gordon Eagleson passed away in 2005, leaving behind not only his proud and loving family, but, his friends and colleagues as well as a wonderful legacy in the care of others.
Present owners, Frank and Doris Eagleson, in 1987, assumed the obligation of carrying on the family tradition of excellence in Funeral Service. To perpetuate the tradition of service, Frank and Doris's children are active in assisting families who have placed their trust and confidence in the Eagleson Funeral Home. Shannon, who works as a Legal Assistant with a Law Firm in town, often assists with evening visitations. Frank and Doris are very pleased and proud that their son Chad has returned home in 2006, to be involved with the family business, after having spent four years as a licensed funeral director with a family owned funeral home in Toronto. Chad has gained much experience so as to better help in creating personal and meaningful services for families served.
The Eagleson Funeral Home is dedicated to professional, yet, personal, compassionate, and sincere service. The Eagleson Funeral Home is very proud to be considered one of Ontario’s few, 3rd generation, family owned and operated funeral homes
Frank and Chad are honoured when families place trust and confidence in them for help through difficult times. They offer many specialized services, such as personalized video tributes, that help in celebrating lives lived.
