The Role of the Funeral Home

At the funeral home you will decide the time, place and type of service, you require for your loved one. Your funeral director, and perhaps your clergy, will assist you. Our funeral directors are here to help by offering flexibility and personal attention to the needs of each family and faith. For those who are not affiliated with a particular faith, but wish to have a clergy member a part of the service, Eagleson's can make arrangements for this option. We can also prepare a non-religious ceremony for those who wish to omit this element from the service. We take care in ensuring that all funerals, regardless of religious content, are arranged with the utmost dignity and necessary values, in order to provide the family with a forum that honors the memory of the deceased.

At Eagleson's we will be objective and respectful in assisting you in arranging a service that best suits your individual requirements and wishes. We also believe that it is important to consider the feelings of all those who will be a part of the service and who will be remembering their loved one or friend.

We will endeavour to make that time of loss for each family, as bearable as possible. We will take as much of the burden of making the final arrangements from the shoulders of the family, and will perform these tasks with sacred dignity.

Making Funeral Arrangements

The government requires that the Statement of Death is completed before death can be registered and permits issued. The funeral director will make an appointment with the family in a location most comfortable to them, to obtain the information necessary for the completion of the Statement of Death and other documents as required.

The necessary information to provide the funeral director:

  • date and place of birth and death
  • marital status, occupation, social insurance number,
  • name of the father of the deceased and his birthplace and the maiden name of the mother of the deceased and her birthplace

Completing the necessary legal documents and government forms is one of the first and most important services taken care of by your funeral director. He will obtain all the signatures, certificates and permits required to comply with regulations and personal funeral wishes.

Funeral Services and Expenses

At Eagleson we have done everything possible to make sure that our prices are accurate, fair and appropriate for both the families we serve and our funeral home. The cost of a funeral is a matter of personal choice which must be determined by each family.

There are certain expenses that are basic to almost every funeral, but the majority are determined by the customs and desires of each family and the selections they make. The more extensive the services and products, the higher the costs of the funeral. At Eagleson's, the family has complete freedom of choice and they alone determine how much will be spent when celebrating or remembering that a life has been lived. We take the time to advise families in regards to the financial support available (ie CPP Death Benefits and Insurance Policies) so as to compliment our services to their financial situation.
