Service Summary: Private Family Service

Louie Paul July 8, 1937 – August 11, 2019 Peacefully with his wife Nancy, and daughter Linda, at his side at Saugeen Memorial Hospital, in Southampton. Louie was ageless. You would never know by looking at him that he was 82 years old. Hardly a wrinkle on his face or a grey hair on his head, he still walked every day with Nancy and was still doing hair for a few of his long-term customers. He came to Canada in 1957 as a Hungarian refugee. He taught himself English watching Western movies in Montreal with his other Hungarian buddies. He made his way west to Ontario, working in factories and picking tobacco. He saved up his money to go to HairStyling school in London, Ontario and upon graduation he moved to Port Elgin where he eventually started his own business. M’Ladys Hairstyling became Paul’s Hairstyling and he and Nancy bought her dream home on Johnston Avenue where they raised their three daughters: Linda Campbell (Al) of Thorold, ON; Michele Osborne (Troy) of Summerland, BC; and Christine Paul (James Landry) of Squamish, BC. Louie remained busy with his business (he LOVED to do hair) and working with Nancy on maintaining the meticulous lawn and gardens of their beautiful home. He made many memories with his childern and grandchildren: Kaila Campbell (Cody Lee) of Okotoks, AB; Mark Campbell (Rachelle Merson) of Fort Erie, ON; and Jack Osborne of Summerland, BC. Summers were spent at the beach; winters pulling the kids in the sleigh around town; and when they got older, he taught them all to play Chess. Louie played computer chess every single day! When Louie sold his business and the house in 2006, they moved to an apartment on Ivings Drive, but they did not slow down at all! Louie took up Karate at age 74 and earned his yellow belt. Nancy and Louie could be seen on their long walks through town almost every day. Louie did the laundry and helped Nancy keep their home and car meticulous! For many years they planted and maintained several pots of flowers around their apartment building. At age 82 (as of July 8, 2019), Louie looked like a young man of 60! He cheated death a number of times, including melanoma, prostate cancer, and a serious diabetic incident just last year. This time, he must have reached the end of his 9 lives. Louie suffered a very serious stroke on Friday, August 2nd. He was taken to London’s University Hospital where the doctors and nurses worked very hard to save him. When it was clear that he would not survive, hospital staff worked to bring him back to Southampton where he would be closer to home. Special thanks to the nursing staff at Saugeen Memorial Hospital and special acknowledgement to Dr. Billings, who went out of his way to extend the utmost compassionate and professional care to both Louie and Nancy and Linda. Louie left this world peacefully, with his hand in Nancy’s, on August 11, 2019. He will be missed terribly, and never forgotten, by anyone who knew him. Louie did not wish to have a funeral or any fuss made upon his death. He will be cremated and a private family celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to the Heart and Stroke, Diabetes, or Saugeen Memorial Hospital foundation. Alternatively, a donation to the charity of your choice is also appreciated.
