Obituary

Lynne Marian Thompson

It is with love and sadness that the family of Lynne Thompson announce her passing on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at the age of 77.  Lynne was a devoted and cherished wife of 59 years to Jim Thompson. She was an adoring and loving mother to Terry Thompson (Jenni Graham), Tammy Connelly (Rob) and the late Dan Thompson (Jeannette). Her grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she showered Meaghen, Emma, Adelynne and Caelan with so much love and attention.

Lynne will be dearly missed by her siblings, Eleanor Huffman of Chesley, Iris Smith of Elmira, Milton (Arlene) Turner of Whitechurch, and Hugh (Marion) Turner of Guelph. Predeceased by her sisters Janice Turner, Gail Ferrier and Vicky Schmidt, and her brothers John Turner and Walter Turner. Loved by her many nieces and nephews.

Born in Conn, Ontario to the late Hugh and Evelynne Turner, Lynne lived on their family farm until she left to pursue a career as a hairstylist. She married Jim in 1966 and they lived in Malton, Grand Valley and Durham, Ontario until they settled their family in Port Elgin in 1977.

She worked for many years at Knechtel’s (now Foodland) in Southampton and then many more at CIBC in Southampton until she retired in 2008. It was rare that she walked down the street without stopping for a visit with so many locals and tourists that knew her from her time in service to the community.

Lynne was an avid flower gardener and an incredible cook. She poured love into every meal and took great pleasure and creativity from sharing food. Above all else, Lynne was a kind and compassionate person who connected easily with everyone she met, thanks to her beautiful smile and open heart. She nurtured many wonderful friendships as a result.

A Gathering to Celebrate the Life of Lynne Thompson will be held at the Lakeshore Recreation Club, 1177 Goderich St., Port Elgin, on Friday November 7, 2025 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Words of remembrance will be shared at 2 p.m. All who knew and loved Lynne are invited to attend in appreciation of her wonderful life.

In her memory, donations may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Canada or Grey Bruce Hospice Foundation. Eagleson Funeral Home will be present on November 7 to receive donations.
