Obituary

Heather Mulchey (née Spence)

Heather Mulchey, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cherished friend, passed away suddenly at the Saugeen Memorial Hospital on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the age of 83.

Heather was the beloved wife of the late Ron Mulchey, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and partnership until his passing. She was the loving and devoted mother to Elizabeth and her husband Jamie Filman, and to Ian and his wife Kim Mulchey. She was the proud and adoring grandmother to Eric, Brady, and Bennett Mulchey, who were a constant source of joy in her life.

Heather is survived by her sister-in-law, Kathie Spence. She is predeceased by her husband Ron, her brother James Spence, her parents George and Ruth Spence, and her two sister-in-laws, Audrey Livernois and Carol Mulchey.

Born on November 2, 1942, in Toronto, Ontario, Heather cultivated a lifelong passion for caring for others. She completed her nursing training at the University of Toronto and began her rewarding nursing career, first in Public Health and then moving on to her important work at the Cancer Detection Clinic at the Women’s College Hospital in Toronto. Her professional life was defined by the same compassion and dedication she showed to her family and friends.

In addition to her family and career, Heather found great fulfilment in her community. She was an active and respected member of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) Southport, the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Women’s PROBUS Club of Saugeen Shores, and, of course, Tolmie Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she gave her time generously and made deep friendships.

Heather was blessed with a large circle of close, lifelong friends spanning from Southampton to Toronto, Vancouver, and Hawaii. She held a special place in her heart for her precious friends, the Harlocks, with whom she and Ron shared many cherished memories. Following the passing of her husband, Heather moved to Elgin Lodge, where she lived for the past two-and-a-half years. There, she formed many new and deep friendships that greatly enriched her life.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, faith and friendship that will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

The family is grateful for the compassionate care Heather received from the staff at Elgin Lodge, her ever-patient and dedicated caregivers, and from the staff at Saugeen Memorial Hospital.

A Memorial Service to Celebrate the Life of Heather Mulchey will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Tolmie Memorial Presbyterian Church, 699 Goderich St., Port Elgin. A time of fellowship and refreshment will follow at the Lakeshore Recreation Centre, 1177 Goderich St., Port Elgin, from 2:30 p.m. – 5 p.m. You are welcome to attend top both gatherings or to the one your preference.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Presbyterian World Service & Development, the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
