Greig, Rita Eileen Anastasia (née Coady)

Passed away peacefully with family by her side, at the Owen Sound Hospital, on Sunday, October 12, 2025 in her 97^th year.

Rita was predeceased by her husband John Edgar Greig, son Dennis, parents John Joseph Coady and Annie Bridget Clark, sisters Julia Frances Coady and Mary Mullin, brother Maurice Coady, granddaughter Anya, and by her great grandchildren Amanda and Noah.  She is survived by daughter Mary (Gary), sons Robert (Ellen), and John.  Loving Nan to Jennifer (Tom), Erin (Roy), Stephanie (Paul), Steven (Marianne), Krys (Dan), Robbie, Tarah, Paula (Ted), Tammy (Elio), John (Cathy), and Shannon (Matt).  Great Nanny of 21 great grandchildren and Great Great Nanny of 4 great great grandchildren.

Rita was born in Toronto, Ontario and was the first one in her family to be born in a hospital and not at home.  Rita was a stay at home mom.  When her children were in school, she got a job in the kitchen at the old Toronto Psychiatric Hospital.  When they built the Clark Institute of Psychiatry she transferred there and while working took courses to become a food supervisor.  She loved her job until she retired in 1981 and then moved to Port Elgin, Ontario.  Rita loved family and family gatherings as those were the things that meant the most.  She loved her food and enjoyed her trips to Red Lobsters and Mandarins in the cities as well as her crabcakes and Chinese food at the local restaurants.  Rita loved driving her car, going to Walmart where she could walk about the store.  She was still driving 2 days before she entered the hospital.  Rita’s hobbies were Monday night craft sessions with the neighbours where she enjoyed conversations, laughs and socializing.

Rita will be dearly missed by her family and everyone she met along the way.  She always welcomed everyone into her life with open arms.

A gathering to Celebrate the Life of Rita Greig will be held at the Saugeen Shores Masonic Centre, 1213 Goderich St., Port Elgin, on Saturday October 25, 2025 from 1-4 p.m. Private family interment at Sanctuary Park Cemetery, Port Elgin.
