Obituary
June Louise Lee (nee Beare) peacefully slipped her earthly bounds on January 31st at Southampton Care Centre to join the love of her life, Clarence.
She was also predeceased by her mother Norah and stepfather Arnold Jackson, siblings Nellie, Ivy, Jimmy and Vernie, her step-daughter Virginia (Olga) Fleming, brother in-law Webster Lee (Pauline) and her sons-in-law, Bryan McDonald and Robert (Bob) Lindsay,
She will be sorely missed by her daughters Sandy Lindsay and Debra McDonald, and her three grandchildren, especially Brandon Lindsay and Rylee McDonald (Jeff), and also Wesley McDonald (Meaghan), her Great grandchildren, Cassi Savage (nee Lindsay) and brother James Lindsay, and Great-great grandaughter Skylee McDonald and Great-great grandson Theodore Savage and her son-in-law Don Fleming.
She never got to hold her new first Great-great grandchild, Theodore, born in August to great-granddaughter Cassi and her husband Jordan, but would daily look at his baby photo album and it would make her smile.
Mom was a true blue Canadian who loved the Blue Jays, the Maple Leafs hockey, the RCMP musical ride and all things related to horses, Canada geese and anything else that was Canadian.
She was a Prairie girl from Saskatchewan born prematurely in the middle of winter, travelling by sleigh from the farm to the local town hospital. She weighed a little over two pounds and was not expected to live, but live she did for 99 years. In her heart, she was always a Prairie girl loving wide open spaces. She trained as a hairdresser in Saskatoon and it was a life-long passion.
When she and Dad married, they moved to Sudbury, Ontario and eventually to Elliot Lake in 1956, before there was a town. She was a stay-at-home mom, raising her two daughters and then later began working at the Royal Bank from which she eventually retired. In Elliot Lake, Mom and her daughters played baseball on the same team, and she curled and excelled at bowling.
Mom and Dad enjoyed many years in Florida where they built a home, played cards by the hour with friends and attended Blue Jays Spring training. When Dad passed away in Florida, Mom sold the home and remained in Port Elgin, where they had previously retired. She continued her love of bowling until she no longer could and was an avid euchre card player at the Port Elgin Legion.
Mom lived a full life on her own in her apartment when, this past winter, she had a fall and, as a result, her health began to decline. Although physically she had boundaries, she never missed watching a Blue Jays game or the many curling championships on television. She was also a crossword fanatic and completed book after book of the puzzles, saying it was “good for the brain”.
The family thanks Dr. Michael Marriott for making house-calls when Mom could no longer leave her apartment … she adored him. Although it was a short stay, we also thank Southampton Care Centre for their wonderful care in ensuring Mom was comfortable at the end.
When quality of life is no more, it’s time to say goodbye and join those who have gone before. We love you Mom and your legacy lives on through the family.
Cremation has taken place and, at her request, there is no funeral service but please donate to the Grey Bruce Animal Shelter or a charity of your choice.
