Obituary
In Loving Memory of Eric David Fernandes
It is with immense sadness and very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eric Fernandes of Southampton Ontario in his 53rd year. A deeply loved husband, devoted father, cherished son, brother, uncle, and loyal friend to so many, who left us far too soon at the age of 52, after a brief battle with Head and Neck Cancer (Squamous Cell Carcinoma) at the Owen Sound Hospital, with his family by his side and in the arms of his daughter Andi.
Eric is lovingly remembered, deeply missed and always cherished by his wife Alison Fernandes (nee Warwick) and his beautiful daughter, his pride and joy Andi. Eric will be forever missed and loved by his brother Dean Fernandes (Jen) and sister Debra Fernandes; known as the best, Uncle Eric will be missed immensely by his nephews Daniel Fernandes and Jordan Harrison, nieces Alyssa Foley (Josh), Nikki Fernandes and Brianna Fernandes. Eric’s absense will be felt deeply by his father and mother-in-law Steve and Connie Warwick and mother in law Patricia Lang and loved so dearly by his brother in-law Matthew Warwick (Katie).
Eric was predeceased by his dad Andrew Fernandes (2012) and mum Marjorie Fernandes (2023).
Forever cherished and loved greatly by his many aunts, uncles and cousins. Deeply missed, leaving voids in the hearts of his many friends and their family’s that he loved deeply.
Eric was born in Montreal Quebec, grew up in Mississauga Ontario spending the last 8 years in Southampton Ontario. His love and commitment were the foundation of our family, a steady source of strength, positivity, kindness, and a one of a kind humour that brightened a room and made everyone feel his love. Eric always saw the good in people, choosing to believe in them even when they couldn’t see it in themselves. To know him was to feel supported, understood, and valued.
Eric took immense pride in being a father. The bond he shared with his daughter Andi was truly special, they were the best of friends, sharing so many moments and memories to last a lifetime, his love will continue to watch over her, guiding her, encouraging her, and reminding her always of the laughter, lessons, and unconditional support he gave throughout their time together.
Eric was a devoted husband, a true partner and best friend whose love and warmth were the foundation of their family. Always present, he demonstrated positivity and patience, as well as a constant source of encouragement and strength to Alison on many levels during their 20 plus years together.
Eric’s smile and positivity were contagious, he saw the best in people without a doubt. His gentle and kind nature was not only seen in the relationships he built but also in the participation and pride he had while coaching and watching his daughter play hockey, baseball, tennis and golf. A true leader, he took great fulfillment in encouraging youth to excel and build confidence through coaching while providing mentorship and guidance bringing patience and encouragement.
Eric will be remembered for the way he showed up for others, whether through a helping hand, a listening ear, a well-timed joke that could brighten even the hardest days or a phrase or saying that seemed to always catch on to others. He valued connection, laughter, and the simple moments that brought people together through his love for entertaining and seeing people happy.
Eric had a deep lifelong love for golf, a game that brought him happiness and countless friendships. He absolutely loved and treasured his golf trips with the boys. The course will never be the same without his spirit, and the memories made on the greens will be treasured by all who played alongside him. The greens will be a little quieter now…better hit em straight up there Ere!
Eric leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and kindness that will continue to live on through all those who were fortunate enough to know him. His absence will be felt beyond words…Rest in Paradise Big E!
The family wishes to thank the Medical Team at Princess Margaret Hospital, Dr Waldron, Dr. Spreafico, Dr. De Almeida for their care and compassion. To Dr. Rebecca Wong, we thank you for thinking outside the box and pushing for expanded treatment options for Eric in the Isotope space.

The sense of calmness and security that you gave us and gave Andi is something we will cherish forever and a gift of kindness that is beyond words.
To all of our beloved friends in the community, we are overwhelmed by your generosity and thoughtfulness that you showed these past 3 months bringing food, walking our dog Corson, looking out for my mom, shoveling the snow and taking care of our home, we love you and are beyond thankful.
