Obituary
Novakowich, Elaine, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Chapman House, Owen Sound, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at the age of 75.
Beloved wife to George Novakowich. Loving mother to Paul (Akiko) Cleaver, Sharon (Al) Cleaver, and Amanda Cleaver. Proud grandmother to Naomi, Emma and Dylan, Olivia, Graham, and Alison, and Alexandra and Tommy.
Elaine will be remembered by her sister Susan (Steve) Hacket, her niece Marie, nephew David, as well as George’s family of Derek (Christine), Kevin (Vesna), Jaime (Nelson), and their families. Predeceased by her parents Leslie and Marjorie.
Elaine found joy in music and the stage. Over the years she was a member of the Chantry Singers and Making Waves as well as being involved in local community theatrical plays.
She had a happy place in her sewing room making quilts and various clothing for her grandchildren.
Elaine’s earlier years involve being a bank teller at National Trust, Scotia Bank and Hepcoe – a role perfectly suited to her ability to listen and patiently provide answers to questions. In her later years she was a receptionist for various doctors located in the Saugeen Shores Medical Building. Her kind and gentle spirit would be remembered by all that interacted with her as she always strived to be helpful and her presence lightened up every room. After retirement Elaine found her Pickleball passion, which was a welcome replacement for tennis – a sport she enjoyed playing in Port Elgin and Southampton. She befriended many Pickleball players and was very disappointed when she could no longer play due to health issues.
The family is grateful to all who support Elaine through her two year battle. Elaine was loved by everyone who met her and will be fondly remembered by her dear friends, co-workers and the many people’s lives she touched. She will live on through her children, her kindness and our sweet memories of her.
A Service to Celebrate the Life of Elaine Novakowich will be held at the Tolmie Presbyterian Church, Port Elgin, on Thursday, June 25 at 11 AM. A gathering will follow at the Port Elgin Legion from 12:30 PM – 4 PM. You are welcome to come to both or to the one of your preference.
Interment of ashes Sanctuary Park Cemetery, Port Elgin.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Grey Bruce Hospice Foundation.
