Obituary

Marr, Cathie (née Geddes) of Port Elgin passed away on Monday June 15, 2026 at the age of 90. Beloved wife to the late Alexander “Sandy” Marr for 71 years. Sandy Marr recently passed away on February 6, 2026.

Cathie Marr was a remarkable woman who lived 90 wonderful years surrounded by family, friends, and a community she loved.  Cathie and Sandy’s love story was one of devotion, partnership, and family. It brings comfort to know they are together once again. Their story began in Dundee Scotland and London England, then continued when they emigrated to Canada in 1967.

Cathie was a fiercely loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest happiness came from bringing her family together. Her home was always a place of warmth, laughter, and belonging. Every Friday night, she hosted sleepovers for her grandchildren, creating traditions and memories that will be treasured forever.

Sunday mornings were another cherished tradition. Cathie welcomed family around her table for breakfast, ensuring everyone was fed not only with good food but also with love, conversation, and connection. Those simple mornings became some of the family’s most precious memories.

Cathie enjoyed many sports. Baseball, tennis, badminton, track and field, and of course dance, just to name a few. She was always volunteering and putting others first.

Cathie was incredibly talented and generous with her talents. She lovingly made skating costumes for her grandchildren, pouring countless hours into every stitch. She was deeply involved in the figure skating community and served as President of the Port Elgin Figure Skating Club.

Cathie will be remembered for her kindness, strength, generosity, and unwavering love for those around her. She taught us the importance of family, hard work, showing up for one another, and creating traditions that bind generations together.

Cathie was the dear mother to Graham Marr, Sandra and her husband Luc Belanger, and Lesley and her husband Peter Parker.

She was the proud grandmother to Amanda (Matt), Michelle (Brock), Gillian (Kyle), Alex, Jocelyn (Jake), Erica (Clay), Joseph, Kim, and Billy Jo. Cherished great-grandmother to Lucas, Lachlan, Tessa, Lucy, and Hailee.

Cathie is survived by her sister Anne MacKay and brother Bob Geddes, many nieces and nephews, and her extended family abroad. Predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Amelia, brothers Alex, Joe, Bill, sisters Lucy, Nessie, and daughter in law Keith-Anne.

Cremation has taken place. A gathering to Celebrate the Life of Cathie Marr will be held at the Lakeshore Recreation Centre, on July 4, 2026 from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Bruce County Paramedic Services would be appreciated.
