Ebenstreit, Karel, passed away peacefully with family by his side, at Huron Shores Hospice in Tiverton, Ontario on Sunday November 1, 2026 in his 85^th year.

Beloved father to Paula (Greg Fletcher) Buerger, Charles (Angela) Ebenstreit, and David Ebenstreit. Proud grandfather (Deda) to Daniel (Samantha), Huxley, Radek, and Ryker. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews in the Czech Republic.

Predeceased by wife, Marie, his parents Pavlina and Karel, and his sister Jarmila.

Karel was a man who greatly loved his family. His biggest highlight in life was family gatherings where he could enjoy his children’s and grandchildren’s company and listen to all their stories.

He worked at Bruce Nuclear Site as an electrical engineer and owned and operated Elgin Jewellers with his wife Marie. She took care of the jewellery repair side of the business, and he took care of the watch and clock repair side.  As a certified watch and clockmaker, he had a remarkable gift for working with intricate mechanisms, repairing and restoring treasured timepieces with patience and precision. He was a man who loved understanding how things worked.

Karels hobbies and interests were Karate, Amateur Ham Radio, playing his guitar and the local gun club. He was a proud member and past President of the Rotary Club of Port Elgin.

One of Karel’s most memorable contributions to Port Elgin was his enthusiasm for BMX racing. In the 1970s, he founded the town’s first BMX team, introducing young riders to the excitement of the sport. He spent many weekends driving groups of children across Ontario to compete in races, cheering them on. Karel also raced himself and placed in the top 10 worldwide during the world championships in British Columbia.

Karel will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever celebrated for a life truly well lived.

A Funeral Mass for Karel will be held at St. Joseph’s Parish, 920 Wellington St., Port Elgin, on Monday November 9, 2026, at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at Sanctuary Park Cemetery.
