February 14, 1933 – November 2, 2026 - Age 93

Obituary

Gruetzner, George John, passed away at the Southampton Care Centre, Southampton Ontario, on Monday, November 2, 2026. George Gruetzner of Southampton at the age of 93. Beloved husband, best friend and cherished companion for 67 years of Margaret Gruetzner (née Robinson).

George will be fondly remembered by many friends of the community, especially in Southampton as well at Viewpoint Golf and RV Resort, Mesa, Arizona.

George has left a legacy for all to remember. He was a gifted teacher at John F Ross Secondary School in Guelph for over 30 years, teaching woodworking to builders of the future. George was also a visionary in being one of the founding members of the Southampton Tennis Club, established in 1956. Playing and teaching tennis all his life, George found great fun and fellowship after becoming a very avid Pickleball player.

George and Margaret spent close to 30 years travelling to Arizona and leaving their mark in the Park at Viewpoint. George convinced the owners of the park to build a magnificent ball diamond, and the Desert Jewel Ball Field is still a major feature of the park.

George also took great pride in his properties having manicured lawns, groomed trees, and in his workshops where tools always had to be in the right spot. George loved tools and technology so much that he often would buy multiple tools so if one broke, he would always have a backup. George took pleasure remembering his youth in Southampton, especially during the summer when he was an elite water skier on the Saugeen River. He was very proud of his connection to his parents’ business, Hespeler Furniture Company. He will be missed!

George is predeceased by his parents, Karl and Mabel Gruetzner, and by his sister Isobel.

Private Interment at New Hope Cemetery, Cambridge. Donations to the Saugeen Shores Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of Remembrance.
