Obituary

James Keith Weeden, MSc., P. Eng. (ret)

(Jim Weeden)

Surrounded by those who loved him most, our smart, kind, wonderful Jim found peace after a brave battle with cancer.

Jim now joins his soulmate of more than fifty years, Marjorie Weeden (nee Kent), in the place where the best of us find each other at the end. He was his daughter Ashleigh’s most steadfast champion, funniest co-conspirator, and deeply admired role model.

Jim was a dedicated public servant and innovative agricultural engineer. He was also a passionate horseman, gifted photographer and committed community volunteer. Jim walked through the world looking for ways that he could leave things better than he found them. For his family and many friends, he was a never-ending source of wisdom and support, always there to listen and lend a helping hand. Jim cared deeply about the people he loved and the world around him, finding his greatest joy in connecting with others. There will never be anyone else like him and we will miss him every moment of every day.

The best way to honour Jim’s memory is to stand up for what is right (even and especially if you stand alone), pursue your wildest ideas and learn what you’re made of in the process, always ask why something is the way it is and if it could be made just a bit better, and give selflessly of your time and talents simply because you can and it is the right thing to do.

While there is no limit to our grief, Jim would want his memory to inspire you to do your bit of good in the world, to fight hard for the things that matter, and to hold tight to the people you love.
