Obituary

Luigi “Gino” De Filippis passed away peacefully in his 79th year, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.

Born in Vasto, Italy, Gino as a young child, immigrated to Canada in 1951. This is where he watched his father build a life in Toronto for generations to come – rooted in hard work, family, and community. Gino was predeceased by his beloved parents, Panfilo and Maria De Filippis as well as his sister Lina. Gino is survived by his sister Tina Romeo.

Gino was a very proud father to his daughter Kristen and his son Michael (Tracey), and a deeply honored Nonno to his cherished grandson Cameron, who brought him so much joy. He took pride in his family and found his greatest happiness in their accomplishments.

For over 30 years, Gino worked with the TTC, where he was known for his dedication to safe driving. (and Euchre playing!) He drove a TTC bus learning every nook and cranny of Toronto.

Outside of work, he had a passion for golf and was especially talented in crafting custom golf clubs. The products of which he generously shared with friends and family.

Gino will be remembered for his kindness, humility, and his sense of humor.

In his memory, donations may be made to the Pryde Aquatic Wellness Centre (PAWC) the local pool where his adored “grandsonny” trains and works.

Visitation will take place at the Eagleson Funeral Home, 234 Palmerston St., Southampton on Friday, April 10th from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, 36 Albert St. S., Southampton will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at the Southampton Cemetery.

Gino was loved and will be deeply missed.
