Obituary

Flora May Harris-Doran passed away in Owen Sound on Thursday March 30, 2023 in her 98th year.

Wife of the late Donald Harris (1991) and Ralph Doran (1999).

Mother of Donna L’Hote (Alain) of France, Byron Harris (Paige) of Southampton, Graham Harris (Jan) of NewZealand.

Grandmother of Leith Harris (Deb) and Helen Harris (Dan).

Fondly remembered by Kevin and Bryan (Sylvia) Doran and families.

Predeceased by her parents Alonzo and Lillian Oke, one brother, and an infant grandson, Caleb.

Flora was an accomplished artist, working largely with fabrics, in later life.  But she was well versed in sketching and painting too, using oils during her late teens and as a young woman.  Eventually she transitioned to water colours.  In mid life she attended Beal Collegiate for several terms, to further develop her artistic bent. She won several “People’s Choice” awards for pieces submitted for public display.   She often designed and created individually, but also with other fabric artist and so created and helped to assemble many pieces that were commissioned for public spaces – libraries, golf courses, hospitals, museums and universities. She was a founding member of the Canadian Embroiders Guild, London Ontario.

Flora had a long association with the North End of Sauble Beach throughout her life.  Many fine memories with cottage friends and relatives and the many guests who shared time and food and conversation at the Harris cottage “Windchime” and also at “the Point”, where the original family cottage “Oke Doke”was located.

A graveside service will take place in London ON at a later date. Details will be forwarded to family and friends, when determined.

Flora had previously made donations to Sleeping Children Around The World https://www.scaw.org/ and to other charities.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to your charity of choice would be appreciated.
