Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mary Elizabeth(Liz) Squires on Friday March 10th.   Doing one of the things that she enjoyed most in life, mom passed drinking wine with friends while enjoying a fine meal and conversation.

For those who knew Liz, you will be happy to know that she put her English degree to good use writing her will;  an entertaining read the last words being “to be distributed amongst my three children taking turns until they run out of interest, then burn, bury or sell”

Liz was always of a curious nature, completing a BA, BEd and other programs including a publishing degree from George Washington University.  She also was an avid traveller, venturing to China, the Amazon, Greece, Russia, England and points hither and yon.

Loving mother to Gillian Gibbons( Scott Gibbons), David Howse( Tanya Mossa), Janet Howse(Ryan James) and grandchildren Ashley, Lauren, S. Howse, Ryder, Greta and Faye.  She was an excellent and caring mom to all her children and grandchildren and we thank her immensely.

Her children would like to thank her wonderful community for all that you have given her over the years and the many dear friends that brought her joy, laughter, love and adventure.  She was opinionated as hell, curious, with a great wit and a sharp tongue.  Not one to suffer fools she was also gentle, kind and thoughtful.  We love her deeply and will carry her with us as we carry on down the road.

Liz was a long time champion of opportunities for women to excel in education.

In lieu of flowers donations can also be made to the CFUW Southport scholarship fund by e transfer to

cfuw.southport.members@gmail.com where we are working to establish a Liz Squires scholarship.
