Obituary

Matthew Robert Paul Given

Passed peacefully, with his parents by his side, after just a few hours in hospital at Brightshores Health Services, Southampton, ON., on Tuesday May 28th, in his 39th year.

Matt fought a very courageous battle against a very aggressive cancer.

Never once missing any treatment offered, or foregoing any surgery that had any hope of extending his life.

Matt is survived by his parents, Paul and April Given of Port Elgin, and his brother Nick Given (Kristen Holloway Given) of Port Elgin.

Special Grandson to Alice Higginson of Port Elgin, and Shirley Given of Wiarton.

Nephew to Irv Higginson of Calgary Albt, Velvette Magee (Mark) of Hagersville, Bernie Higginson of Calgary Albt., Jeff Higginson of Calgary Albt, Rainy and Bruce Given of Wiarton, Kevin Given (Linda), of Owen Sound, Tim Given (Diane) of Wiarton.

Predeceased by his Grandfathers Cecil Higginson, of Dundalk, and Milt Given of Ferndale, and by his Aunt Karen Wright of Salmon Arm, BC

Matt had many cousins on both sides of his large family, and a very large extended family.

Matt’s beautiful dog Bailey has remained by his side, every step of the way of his very difficult journey in the past 18 months.  Bailey brought him great joy and comfort, and a purpose, as he raised her up from a wee puppy to the beautiful girl he left behind.

Matt had a determination to fight cancer, and that stayed with him until his final day, never giving up hope to continue to remain here with all of us.

Thank you to Matts friends for the enormous support that you gave him, during his illness, and your friendship to him all these years, many of you since early childhood., he truly loved you.

All of the school friends, sports teams, and close personal friendships, we are very grateful you were in his life.

Thank you to the Palliative Care Team in Southampton, Dr Gleba, Dr Marriot and the nurses for their care and concern, and your ability to ease his pain on the final step of his journey.

Special thank you to Ann Veyvara-Divinski, for your spiritual guidance, for being with Matt, and us, in his final moment as he left us to be with his creator.

You are so very loved, and missed Son, and you are in God’s hands now.

A Celebration of Life for Matt will be held at Lakeshore Recreation in Port Elgin on Saturday June 22nd, from 2-4 p.m.

Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
