Obituary

After living life to its fullest for 94 years, Murray Patrick Muldoon of Southampton, Ontario passed away March 28 after a brief illness at Southampton Hospital.

He will be forever adored by his wife Barbara, daughter Kathy and her husband John, along with granddaughter Kelly, her partner Frank, and grandson Kevin and his wife Amy. The recent addition of great-grandson Colin Patrick gave Murray his daily “morning smile”.

Predeceased by his older sisters Mary Cooke and Josephine O’Connor, Uncle Murray will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews who continued to visit in Southampton on a regular basis.

A fisherman, curler and avid golfer in years gone by he enjoyed an extended network of friends and neighbours who looked after each other like family, popping in for visits, going for lunches and travelling as a group to the latest films. There will be an empty seat at poker club, which met every Tuesday night for 32 years. Murray could be relied on to keep the game fair and square and prided himself on being the only remaining original member. He was still anteing up just a month ago.

Although his vision faded greatly it did not slow his ability to navigate the PGA leaderboard on the iPad and watch holes being played in real time, because as we heard every weekend, “They never show the Canadians on TV . . .”

Murray was known for his calm demeanor, sense of logic and head for numbers, all things that served him well in his career as a systems analyst at Ford Canada. He was our go-to guy for quick calculations, whether it was price per milliliter, compound interest or how he knew the left bower was buried in the spare euchre hand. He loved to explain in great detail how he got the answer.

The family thanks Dr. Daniel Gusberti, Dr. Shaji Khan and Dr. David Billings and the staff at Saugeen Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care and Kristen Watt of Kristen’s Pharmacy, who went above and beyond to help. Special mention to all the poker buddies and the ladies he jokingly called his “harem” who provided so many good times.

Join us in forever remembering a well-loved man who lived life well.
