Obituary

Ruby Marie Counsell, 93 years of Southampton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 8th, at Southampton Care Centre with daughter Janice and son Michael at her side.

Ruby was born in Toronto on August 22, 1930, to Ruby and Jack Mullan. Ruby attended Northern Secondary High School and studied Fashion design. Ruby had a flare for style and design and was a personal shopper. Ruby and D’Arcy Counsell were married at Blessed Sacrament Church on May 9th, 1951. Shortly thereafter they adopted their three children. Ruby and her family enjoyed years of summer vacations at their Knowles Lane Beach cottage. The Southampton summer home was a gathering place for many family members. Ruby retired in 1986 and made her summer home her full-time residence. Ruby often said she had a great life. Walks on the beach, skipping stones, watching waves and sunsets, and she loved Canada Day fireworks from her deck. Ruby relished these moments with family and friends.

Ruby will be lovingly remembered as a Special Woman, by her son Michael (Penny) and her daughter Janice (Brian). By grandchildren, Soleil, Michel (Anna), Joshua, Alex (Crystal Anne), Andrew (Lindsay), Christopher (Debra), Caitlin, Jessica, Taylor (Amber). Great grandchildren, James, David, Nolan, Charlotte, Ashton, Caleb, Luke, William, Ruby,  Emily, Isabel, Ada, and Brianna. Sister-in-law, Siri Dharma and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her husband D’Arcy and son David.

A special thanks to the Staff, Nurses and Personal Support Workers at Southampton Care Centre who cared for Ruby during the hard times and right up to her passing.
