Today a gentle kind soul has departed this world and will be sorely missed.

Hatch, Stuart Cromwell Goudie, on Friday February 9, 2023 at the age of 79.  He leaves behind his wife Jean (Iacurto) and children Andrea, James (Caley), Blair and grandchildren Brogan and Archer, Isla and Ainsley.  Sister-in-law Pamela Iacurto, niece Heather Sabinskey and nephews Robert Wiegand, Cameron Wiegand and cousin Rob Legge.

Stuart is predeceased in death by his mother Hope Goudie Hatch, his father James Lewis Hatch and sister Mary Elizabeth Wiegand.

Stuart was born and raised in Altoona, Pennsylvania where he met his wife Jean of 57 years.

Stuart attended the Pennsylvania State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.  Upon graduation Stuart emigrated to Kitchener, Ontario where he entered the family business Goudies Department Store.  This was short lived as the Vietnam War intervened and Stuart returned to the United States to serve his country as a U.S. Naval Officer serving on the U.S.S. Raleigh-LPD-1 as it’s supply officer.  After 4 years and a Naval discharge Stuart returned to Ontario and resumed his retail career at Goudies until it’s closing the in the late 80’s.

However his love of the water was always in his blood and sailing with good and dear friends on Georgian Bay became an integral part of his life.

Upon retiring Stuart moved to his beloved family cottage at Sauble Beach where he particularly loved the sunsets.  No matter how bright the sun, at a certain time the blinds were raised to watch the sun go down.

When Stuart later moved to Port Elgin he experienced enjoyable times returning to Sauble to help his son James with the many various projects.  His toolbox always at the ready.

Stuart was the quintessential family man.  He enjoyed one last Christmas at home and a quiet New Year with dear friends.

And now the angels will escort him to his final home.

The sun is down.

You were loved Stu Dad Pops.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chapman House.

A Celebration of Life Service for Stuart will be held on Friday February 17, 2023, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Southampton at 1 p.m. Spring interment Sanctuary Park Cemetery, Port Elgin.
