Obituary

David Paul Banks

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Dad, Dave Banks on October 31, 2026, at the age of 70, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Dave was a loving father to Daryl (Dana) Banks and Sasha (Tim) Hammell, whom he shared with his former wife, Linda Banks (Ens), and an incredibly proud and devoted grandfather to Grace, Ben, and Jacob. His grandchildren were truly the light of his life, and nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with them. Whether cheering them on at the hockey rink, baseball diamond, or dance recitals and competitions, sharing his wisdom, or simply enjoying their company, he was their biggest fan and greatest supporter.

Dave was predeceased by his parents, Ed and Irene Banks, and his sister Carol Richmond (2016). He is lovingly remembered by his siblings Ginny (David) Atkinson, Sue (Steve) Milligan, Geoff (Beth) Banks, and Janet (Glenn) Lewis, brother-in-law Bob Richmond, and his many nieces and nephews, to whom he was a much-loved uncle.

Dave was a man of many talents, endless interests, and an incredible zest for life. A dedicated athlete and an even better teammate, Dave spent many years playing hockey as a goaltender and fastball as a pitcher, forming lasting friendships along the way. His passion for music was equally strong, playing drums with several bands, including Summer Rain, Spicer, and 40 Hills Road, to name a few. He also had a remarkable talent for realistic pencil drawing, was an enthusiastic motorcyclist, and even earned his pilot’s licence. A natural problem-solver with an incredible determination to learn and master new things, Dave was the kind of person who could accomplish just about anything he set his mind to. He loved sharing his knowledge with others and was equally eager to learn from those around him. Dave had a genuine love for cooking, surpassed only by his appreciation for a great meal. He spent 40 years working at BMTS, where he formed lasting friendships.

Above all, Dave was someone who embraced life and the people in it. Always up for a motorcycle ride, a concert, a jam session, or an adventure, he rarely passed up an opportunity to make a memory. He was thoughtful, compassionate, and genuinely interested in the lives of others. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people, listen without judgment, and celebrate the successes of those around him. His friendships were deep, meaningful, and cherished.

Throughout his illness, Dave demonstrated extraordinary strength, grace, and positivity. Despite the challenges he faced, he remained grateful for the overwhelming love and support he received. The visits, conversations, laughter, and memories shared with family and friends brought him tremendous comfort and a profound sense of gratitude during his final months.

Dave lived a full and colourful life, filled with music, laughter, friendship, adventure, and above all, love. He leaves behind countless cherished memories and a legacy that will live on through the many lives he touched.

He was a man who showed up, said yes to life, loved wholeheartedly, and made the lives of those around him better simply by being part of them.

He will be deeply loved, forever remembered, and profoundly missed.
