Obituary
Egon passed away at Brightshores Memorial Hospital in Southampton on Sunday, May 24, 2026, in his 84th year. Born in Poland, Egon and his family immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1953 to build a life filled with opportunity, music, and love.
He was the beloved husband and lifelong partner of Cheryl, a proud, devoted father to Rick and Kevin (Gabriele), and a cherished grandfather to Angelika and Daniela. He will be deeply missed by his sister, Renate, and was predeceased by his sister Anita (Gus). Uncle Egon is remembered affectionately by his many nieces and nephews: Marlene (Charles), Brigitte, Chris (Pat), Dieter (Anne), Bob (Crystal), and Laurie (Dave). His loyal K9 companion, Rio, will miss him dearly.
Egon is now reunited with his parents, Heinrich and Marta, and his sister, Anita (Pidi).
Egon’s warmth and vibrant spirit defined him and he was always ready to lend a helping hand. Together, Egon and Cheryl created a home and cottage atmosphere that was a refuge filled with laughter, music, beer, and a splash of brandy. An avid outdoorsman, his passions included fishing, and Sunday night hockey with Uncle Peter. He was also a gifted campfire musician, playing the guitar and mandolin while sharing countless memories alongside Uncle John Gelata.
Egon’s legacy will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
A Funeral Service for Egon Ernst will be held at the Eagleson Funeral Home, Southampton on Friday May 29, 2026 at 12:45 p.m. Visitation beginning at 11:45 a.m. Interment to follow at the Southampton Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Salvation Army would be appreciated by the family.
