In Loving Memory of Harry Luscombe
Harry lived a life full of adventure, entrepreneurship, reinvention and a healthy dose of mischief. A Hamiltonian by birth, his lifelong connection to Southampton began in childhood, with summers spent with sand between his toes and a lifetime of memories made along its shores, and in the dunes.
Never one to sit still for long, Harry was an entrepreneur from an early age. From newspaper routes, selling minnows and spray painted Christmas trees and baking donuts for neighbourhood delivery, to teaching tennis with his buddy Ted Todd on Court 4, running a painting business, opening a sailboard rental shop on Port Elgin beach, and taking a Moonwalk on the road as a carnie with his brother Dan, there was always something going on.
Over the years, his many ventures included corporate newspaper distribution of the Globe and Mail, an antique store, a pine furniture business, one of Brantford’s largest video rental stores, and even a stint as a truck driver, travelling across Canada and the United States.
Through it all, Harry shared a life full of adventures, stories and plenty of laughs with his beloved wife, Barb, his sons Todd and Erik (Lisa), and his grandchildren, Regan and Knox. His family was at the centre of his life, and no doubt shared in more than a few of his adventures along the way.
More than 30 years ago, Harry made his way back to Southampton, where he became a sought-after house trimmer and, for the next 20 years, a familiar face as a handyman and property manager. He was never far from a project, a helping hand or an opportunity to keep busy, becoming part of the community he had always called home.
Harry’s formative years, as he liked to demonstrate, lasted well into his seventies. He approached life with energy and an entrepreneurial spirit, always finding something new to try.
Harry’s family appreciates the privacy and understanding of friends and community members during this time. They ask that their privacy be respected as they remember Harry and celebrate a life well lived.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for summer 2027, allowing family and friends the opportunity to come together and honour Harry in a way that reflects the life he lived and the people he meant so much to.
