Obituary

LOBSINGER, Kenneth Paul

Ken Lobsinger passed away peacefully on April 19th, 2026 following a brief hospitalization at the Owen Sound site of Brightshores Health System. He was in his 86th year and is predeceased by his parents Gordon “Nixie” and Kay Lobsinger, his wife Julia, son Steven Paul Lobsinger, and Ken’s sisters and brother: Karen Seals, David Lobsinger and Rose Marie Heisz. Survived by his daughter Pam and extended family and friends, many of those calling him Kenny and a couple that called him Grampa Ken.

Ken has spent the last couple of years of his life at the Owen Sound Gardens Retirement Residence and some pleasure time out on the shores of Lake Huron at the family cottage. He was blessed with reasonably good health but was frustrated at some of the limitations he found with advancing age.

Ken was born on August 21st, 1940, grew up in Mildmay and attended high school in Walkerton at Sacred Heart High School, coming to Owen Sound with his brothers David and Doug to play Junior B Hockey with the Owen Sound Greys in 1959. He met that Chesley girl Julia Ash, married her in 1963 and started their family that same year. Ken acquired a tradesman qualification for an electrician and worked as such for most of his working career, even owning his own business for several years, before becoming a loss prevention officer for Grey Bruce Mutual insurance company.

From Owen Sound Ken and Julia ventured out to the Tara area and had a small farm where Julia the farm girl taught Ken to be a farmer. Some efforts with cattle, pigs, chickens and turkeys ensued and he loved his John Deere tractor. Ken thrived in the Tara/Keady communities continuing to play sports, then turning to umpiring and refereeing and helping at community events, he was often seen at the Keady Beef Barbeque. He had great neighbours and great friends. Ken and Julia went back into Owen Sound to live just prior to retiring and were great supporters of the Owen Sound Attack.

Ken also enjoyed watching and betting on the ponies.  Many a Saturday night was spent down at the Hanover Raceway watching those harness races, and in later life he figured out the online harness track racing world which brought him a great amount of entertainment, He was also a music lover especially the old country and western stuff and again particularly happy when partaking in a Lobsinger family sing a long. Ken also enjoyed his beer. Not necessarily a connoisseur but it was a beverage of choice that he enjoyed!

Ken will be missed by many but will always live on and be remembered in our memories.

A remembrance reception will be taking place on Sunday April 26th, 2026, from 2-4 pm in the Aldridge Room within the Harbourfront Condominiums at 2555 3rd Avenue West, Owen Sound. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery in Tara

Expressions of remembrance can be made to the Grey Bruce Hospice Foundation, Brightshores Owen Sound Foundation or a charity of your choice.
