Obituary

Kirkland, Shirley Margaret (née Girdler) passed away at the Brucelea Haven, Walkerton, surrounded by family, on Wednesday May 20, 2026 at the age of 91.

Beloved wife to the late Glenn Kirkland.  Loving mother to Karen and her husband Phil Cumming and Brian Kirkland and his wife Niki. Extremely proud grandmother to her grandchildren, Jenny (Cory), Darryl (Kristine), Amanda (Chad), Justin (Jacqueline), Tori (Keiffer), and Brandon (Brittney); and great grandchildren, Kayne, Ainsley, Sophia, Desmond, Sophia, Landon, Logan, Ashton, Maeve, Kyren, Griffin, Livie, Henleigh, and Harlow.

Survived by her sisters Ruth King and Sandra Cox, sister-in-law Kathleen and her husband Ken White, brother-in-law Garey Kirkland and his wife Rita, and by many nieces & nephews.

Predeceased by her parents Jim & Ruby Girdler, brothers Gordon and his wife Shirley, Larry and his wife Marg, and by her brothers-in-law Ross King and Harry Cox.

A casual come & go celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held at the Port Elgin Legion, on Saturday May 23, 2026 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Private Family graveside at the Southampton Cemetery.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Brucelea Haven Recreation Program or to the Alzheimer’s Society of Grey Bruce.
