In Memory of
Steven Paul Lobsinger
August 24, 1963 – July 21, 2023 - Age 59

Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Steven “Paul” Lobsinger announce his unexpected passing on July 19th, 2023 at the age of 59 at his home in London, Ontario.

Loving son to Ken and Julia (Ash) Lobsinger and wonderful brother/best friend to Pam Lobsinger. He will be sorely missed by his extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins along with so many friends and colleagues.

Steve/Paul was born in Owen Sound and grew up “on the farm” in the Keady and Tara communities. He spent his youth curling, roller skating, umpiring softball, teaching Sunday School and “negotiating” ways to get a set of wheels so he could get into town or out to the beach to hang with his friends.  He then attended nursing school at Conestoga College and became a Registered Nurse in 1987.  His nursing career began at Grey Bruce Health Services on their paediatric unit (he was always great with the kids), then to Mount Sinai and St. Michaels in Toronto working in their Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. In 1999 he started his career with the Ontario Nurses Association as a Labour Relations Officer, which culminated in his role as Senior Executive for Negotiations/Chief Negotiator. He achieved certificates in Industrial Relations from Queen’s University and was very proud to have attended the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference (GGLC) in 2004.

In his work life he has been described as brilliant, wise, a mentor, a calming presence, and a staunch advocate and warrior for nurses and their rights. His passing is a profound loss for the professional nursing community. So many have commented on his story telling and his quick wit, his laugh and that smile! To quote a co-worker “when we think of him we remember how he made us happy, how he made us laugh, helped us when we needed it…he was a person who genuinely cared”

Steve/Paul loved spending time at the cottage with family and friends; it was his happy place! So many memories have been made there.  He had also been enjoying his winter sojourns to Mexico with family and friends and anticipating more after his retirement that was set for next spring. He had a sense of style and esthetic that was noted in his dress, his jewellery and in the places he occupied. His mother always commented that his house looked like an Art Gallery! He also loved his music, there was always something on and he was often singing along. The soundtrack of his life seems much too short, but it has been entertaining and eclectic and has brightened ours!

As expressions of sympathy, Steve/Paul would have appreciated donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Keady- North Derby United Church.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lobsinger Family Cottage on Saturday August 19th from 1-4pm with remarks at 2pm and then interment at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Tara in September
